“Sixteen of the nation’s top retired military commanders are urging Congress to pass gun control legislation, arguing that there are many steps that can be taken to curb gun deaths that do not violate the Second Amendment,” The Washington Post parroted Saturday.

Take particular note of Edwin Vieira's comment:

"This is further evidence–if any more were needed–that the “gun control” debate will necessarily come down to the imposition of pervasive “gun control” OR revitalization of the Militia…and if the self-styled champions of the Second Amendment do not focus on its first thirteen words (along with the Militia Clauses of the original Constitution) they will lose this debate, and “a free State” along with it. When mouthpieces for “the standing army” come out of the closet as advocates of disarmament of the citizenry, the true significance of the “gun control” debate becomes crystal clear. The Founders recognized this problem when they differentiated between the regular Armed Forces and the Militia, and assigned to the Militia–not to isolated individuals exercising the NRA’s “individual right to keep and bear arms for the purpose of personal self-defense”–constitutional authority and responsibility they withheld from the Armed Forces. This is a warning that the last moves in the chess game are about to be played–with patriots in this country (if any actually exist) refusing to use their constitutional queen."
