Obama Picks Monsanto Crony Thomas J. Vilsack as Secretary Of Agriculture.

December 19, 2008 | General, President

Mr. Vilsack, has governed a farm state as did the previous two Secretaries of Agriculture, Senator-elect Mike Johanns (2005-2007) and Ed Schafer (2007-present). The Washington Post called Vilsack a “shoo-in” for the job.

Opposition to a Vilsack appointment has come from the Organic Consumers Association, which outlined in a November 2008 report several reasons why it believes Vilsack would be a poor choice for the position, particularly as energy and environmental reforms were a key point of the Obama campaign. Among those reasons the report cites: Vilsack has repeatedly demonstrated a preference for large industrial farms and genetically modified crops; as Iowa state governor, he originated the seed pre-emption bill in 2005, effectively blocking local communities from regulating where genetically engineered crops would be grown; additionally, Vilsack was the founder and former chair of the Governor’s Biotechnology Partnership, and was named Governor of the Year by the Biotechnology Industry Organization, an industry lobbying group. Vilsack has also been known to travel in the Monsanto jet.

Now, if you are a regular visitor to RTR, you know how we feel About Monsanto.  Lets cast aside the fact that they literally killed hundreds of people in Anniston, Alabama

NY Times

But they currently own the patents on more than 35 genetically modified food basics, corn, wheat, soy etc..

in addition, we here at RTR wonder how patents can be issue on living organisms at all, no matter how “Genetically Altered” they may be. Ridiculous you say? Monsanto has now engineerd a genetically modified pig.

These GMO’s or Genetically Modified Organisms, have never really been tested. The long term affects are unknown, yet the FDA  (another unconstitutional bureau) has stood behind these GMO”s claiming that there is absolutely nothing wrong with them.

We here at RTR would like to inquire, how is it that every industrialized nation in the world has banned for example, Monsanto’s rBGH (POSILAC® bovine somatotropin) as unsafe, but it’s legal (and unlabeled) in the United States?

Answer: In order for the FDA to determine if Monsanto’s growth hormones were safe or not, Monsanto was required to submit a scientific report on that topic. Margaret Miller, one of Monsanto’s researchers put the report together.

Shortly before the report submission, Miller left Monsanto and was hired by the FDA. Her first job for the FDA was to determine whether or not to approve the report she wrote for Monsanto. In short, Monsanto approved its own report. Assisting Miller was another former Monsanto researcher, Susan Sechen.

Past Monsanto influences in our government include:

Prior to being the Supreme Court Judge who put G.W. in office, Clarence Thomas was Monsanto’s lawyer.

The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture (Anne Veneman) was on the Board of Directors of Monsanto’s Calgene Corporation.

The Secretary of Defense (Donald Rumsfeld) was on the Board of Directors of Monsanto’s Searle pharmaceuticals.

Whats even a bit more disturbing is the recent appointment of McDonald COO Janice Fields To Monsanto’s Board.

What better way to push the GMO’s onto the general public. Fast-food giant McDonald’s Corp., for example, announced recently that its global sales jumped 7.7 percent in November (4.5 percent in the U.S. alone)–after rising 8.2 percent in October. The sales increases were mainly based on breakfast items and an increase in purchases from the chain’s “dollar menu.”

We here at RTR, view this appointment of Mr. Vilsack is nothing less than nightmarish.
You wanted change via Obama America, well here you go. Inedible, monopolized food.
